For pregnancies conceived with gestational carriers the intended parent(s) generally control genetic screening decisions, however agreements between gestational carriers and intended parent(s) may vary. A recent study reported that gestational carrier pregnancies were significantly more likely to pursue embryo testing and prenatal testing to check chromosome number than in fertility treatment without a gestational carrier.

Genetic counselling to discuss pre implantation and prenatal screening options is important for everyone, this evidence suggests it is sought more frequently by gestational carrier parent(s) to undrestand options in the rapidly changing field of assisted fertility medicine.
